Growth with
purpose.
We believe successful businesses should create positive impact while delivering sustainable, long-term growth, for our farmers, our communities and the land that sustains them.
Sustainability Practices
At Romina Coffee, sustainability isn't a side project. It's woven into how we source, process, and export every batch of Ethiopian coffee. Our approach ties environmental responsibility to farmer livelihoods and community wellbeing, so the people and ecosystems behind every cup can keep thriving for generations to come.

Back to overviewWe invest directly in the farmers who grow our coffee, providing disease-resistant coffee seedlings and shade-tree seedlings free of charge to encourage sustainable growing systems, and supporting them throughout the agricultural year with access to the planting materials they need.
Beyond the farm, we purchase coffee at fair, premium prices and share dividends based on farmers' original coffee supply, giving our partners a stake in the value their coffee creates, not just a one-time sale.
This support runs across our sourcing network in Sidama, Limmu, Yirgacheffe, Guji, Djimma, and Neqemte, with facilities and operations based in Sidama, West Arsi, Wollega, and Guji.
Community Development
Back to overviewOur responsibility doesn't end at the farm gate. We invest directly in the infrastructure our coffee communities need to thrive, including:
- Two schools for community children
- Bridges to improve connectivity
- Roads to improve transportation and access
- Two potable-water site, bringing clean water within reach for the surrounding community
- Coffee Nursery Establishment and Seedling Production
These projects are built within the same communities that grow our coffee: practical, long-term investments in education, mobility, and everyday essentials.
Environmental Commitment
Back to overview
Great coffee starts with a healthy environment, and we take that
responsibility seriously. Our environmental programme includes
shade-tree planting and disease-resistant varieties on the farm,
alongside a growing push toward reduced carbon emissions, less
operational waste, and renewable energy through our eco-friendly machines
at our processing facilities, together with expanding partnerships in
reforestation and biodiversity conservation.
We are working to build a circular economy by turning coffee pulp,
a byproduct of coffee processing, into natural fertilizer.
Instead of treating coffee pulp as waste, we transform it into a valuable resource that can support healthier soil,
reduce waste, and benefit coffee-growing communities.
Water Treatment
Back to overviewWashed coffee processing uses a lot of water, so we treat the water used during washing before it's released back into the environment. It is an ongoing operational commitment, not a one-off project, applied at our wet-mill and processing facilities across Sidama, West Arsi, Wollega, and Guji.
Looking Ahead
Back to overviewOur sustainability journey continues with a focus on practical, measurable improvements across our operations.
- Reducing our carbon footprint
- Minimizing operational waste
- Investing in renewable energy at our processing facilities
- Expanding reforestation partnerships
- Supporting biodiversity conservation
Farmer & Staff Training
Back to overviewTraining sits at the heart of how we build a more sustainable coffee industry. For our partner farmers, that means hands-on capacity-building and agronomic based practices in sustainable farming, farm management, plant health and disease prevention, proper use of improved varieties, shade-tree management, harvesting and quality practices, environmental responsibility, and processing quality, delivered continuously, in step with the agricultural calendar.
